We produce a range of units which cover almost all applications that can be thought of within model railways. Click on the relevant  link on the left to find out more.

Gearboxes for Steam outline

Our gearboxes cover a wide range of applications for steam outline models from the humble dock shunter to the most prestigious express locomotive.

We combine the choice of an appropriate motor with suitable gear box to produce a power unit ideally suited to a specific application. Our gearboxes are precision engineered and employ either simple worm and wheel, multistage or helical multistage and have ratios ranging from 8.5:1 through to 50:1.

With the large number of steam locomotives to choose from it is not possible to give anything other than general guidance here but we are always happy to advise you in the selection of the most suitable motor gearbox combination for your locomotive. A simple phone call, e-mail or by coming along and seeing us in person at any of the exhibitions we attend will secure you the required assistance.

Gearboxes for Diesel Outline

Developed at the request of Pete Waterman our modified upright is becoming the choice of discerning modellers and it's available in two speeds.

See the diesel page for other options

Special & other applications

We carry a range of in-line spur and planetary geared motors which can be combined with other gearboxes for special applications such as motorised accessories, turntables etc.

One of our previous projects has been the supply of gearboxes for surveillance cameras.

Gearbox Efficiency

Whilst we believe our gearboxes cannot be beaten we make no specific claims about the efficiency of any of our gearboxes, others will claim over 75% efficiency for their helical boxes and that worm & wheel are less than 40% efficient - has any one told HPC Gears that their claim for this box can't be true?
